Tina Turener recalled how Phil came over to the house and first sang "River Deep, Mountain High" to Ike and herself. "I was knocked out the first time I heard it", she says. "Phil kind of sang it along with a guitar and I loved it. Then he did the instrumental tracks. Wow! Jack Nitzsche's arrangement was really something else!"

Toni Wine recalls writing with Phil Spector as one of her "fondest memories". "Phil is a special man, greatly talented," she says. "We wrote 'Black Pearl', which was recorded later by Sonny Charles and The Checkmates and became a huge success".
